"Army" denies protest letter "Cambodia" affirms carrying out missions within Thailand's sovereignty, adhering to bilateral agreements, and resolving issues through bilateral mechanisms
On 21 June 2026, Major General Winthai Suwaree, Army spokesperson, stated that following Cambodia's government's protest letter accusing the Thai Army of planting the Thai national flag on Cambodian territory—an act alleged to violate Cambodia's sovereignty—it is clarified that such actions did not violate or encroach upon Cambodian sovereignty as claimed. The operations took place within Thailand's sovereign territory.
Regarding claims that Thai forces set fire to a warehouse in the Chong Chom area, which is Thai territory, coordination with local units found no facts or evidence indicating arson. The incident was simply a fire that extinguished itself in an uninhabited abandoned area and caused no damage. Thai officials promptly took control of and inspected the site.
Concerning allegations that Thai forces constructed a concrete fence near Ta Kwai Temple, the Army clarifies that no concrete fence was built as claimed. Instead, barrier blocks were placed as security measures to protect personnel and reduce confrontation risks. This safety measure was implemented within the area under Thai responsibility.
The Army remains committed to the agreements between the two countries, emphasizing conflict resolution through bilateral mechanisms under peaceful principles to maintain stability and order along the shared border area.
