The Deputy Commissioner of the Royal Thai Police presided over the opening of the "Basic Life Support Training Project" for police officers of Metropolitan Police Division 5 to enable timely assistance to the public.
At 09:00 on 22 Jun 2026, at M Tower building, M Sphere shopping center, Police Lieutenant General Anucha Romyanant, Deputy Commissioner of the Royal Thai Police, presided over the ceremony. Present were Police Lieutenant General Paiboon Jiamanukulkit, Acting Chief Medical Officer of the Royal Police Hospital; Police Major General Witawat Chinkham, Commander of Metropolitan Police Division 5; Police Major General Korkarn Arunplod Isomichi, Commander of the Police Hospital's Medical Division; Somrudee Boonsom, Chairperson of the Metropolitan Police Wives Association; Warangkana Siriularwong, Chairperson of the Metropolitan Police Division 5 Wives Association; Deputy Commanders of Metropolitan Police Division 5; and commanders under Metropolitan Police Division 5. A total of 60 trainees joined the training on basic life support techniques, including CPR and the use of automated external defibrillators (AED), for police officers of Metropolitan Police Division 5 in 2026.
Police Lieutenant General Anucha explained that since police officers often arrive first at emergency scenes, they have the opportunity to save lives at any time. This training is beneficial as it equips officers to help the public, and possibly people close to them. It benefits both their personal and official lives. He urged participants to focus, noting that medical skills require considerable physical effort. Without prior practice on mannequins, officers might hesitate to apply enough force during CPR. Proper chest compressions and AED use require real training to know the necessary pressure. During emergencies, when people are startled, officers should train earnestly, treating the practice like sports to simulate real situations and making actual response as practiced as possible.
Police Major General Witawat stated that today's basic life support and AED training project for Metropolitan Police Division 5 officers is essential because police are frontline responders facing critical situations, especially sudden cardiac arrest, which requires swift and accurate aid. Furthermore, Thailand will host the annual meeting of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank governors in October, with over 15,000 participants from 190 countries. Metropolitan Police Division 5 is responsible for security during this event.
Therefore, this project was organized to train police officers to be proficient in basic life support and AED use, enhancing security efficiency and enabling them to save lives promptly.
The trainees include police officers from Metropolitan Police Division 5 and staff from M Sphere shopping center, totaling 720 people. Training is divided into 12 batches, each with 60 participants. Expert instructors from the Emergency Medicine Department of the Royal Police Hospital provided both theoretical and practical knowledge.
