Update on the case of Mr. Sitthiporn, 33, who was stabbed in the abdomen causing severe injuries with his intestines protruding. The incident occurred in front of a shop in Village 17, Lat Buakhao Subdistrict, Sikhiu District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, on the evening of 21 June 2026. After the incident, a video clip circulated on social media, with the victim's relatives identifying the attacker as a police officer wearing a "CIB" shirt and demanding fair legal action, as previously reported.
On 22 June 2026, Pol. Col. Thatchaphon Chinwong, Chief of Sikhiu Police Station, revealed that preliminary investigations confirmed the suspect is a police officer holding the rank of Police Corporal assigned to the CIB unit. On the day of the incident, he was sitting in front of the shop before the victim approached and a confrontation occurred.
Pol. Col. Thatchaphon explained that the incident began around 6:00 p.m. on 21 June 2026. The suspect, Police Corporal Pongsathorn, from the Central Investigation Training Center under the CIB, was present when the victim, Mr. Sitthiporn, initially got into an altercation with the shop owner, kicking him before fleeing. The victim then attacked another man named "Uncle Manee" with a knife, injuring him in the back. Following this, the shop owner and "Uncle Manee" reported the assaults to Sikhiu Police Station to take legal action against the victim.
Before the shop owner could file the complaint, no one was available to watch the shop except the owner's sister who was alone and feared further incidents. She called Police Corporal Pongsathorn, a friend, to temporarily watch over the shop. Later, the victim returned to the shop still carrying a knife, leading to a confrontation involving a fight and struggle. This escalated to Police Corporal Pongsathorn stabbing the victim, resulting in serious injuries.
Investigations revealed that the victim has a history of mental illness. On the same day before the stabbing, other victims had filed complaints that the victim had harassed and assaulted them. At the scene, evidence showed the victim was carrying a knife before the altercation escalated to a physical fight and stabbing.
The suspect claims he acted in self-defense. Meanwhile, investigators are gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and thoroughly examining the facts to determine the nature of the offense.
Pol. Col. Thatchaphon added that to ensure transparency and fairness for all parties, he personally is overseeing the case file and questioning the suspect. He has instructed investigators to meticulously collect all evidence without overlooking any facts related to the case. Additionally, the Police Commissioner of Nakhon Ratchasima Province has ordered that the suspect officer be summoned to acknowledge the charges.
Initially, the suspect has been charged with "assault causing injury to another person." Further charges will be considered based on evidence and investigation results. It is emphasized that the case will proceed according to facts and evidence, with no favoritism toward anyone, whether police or civilians. Everyone is subject to the same law. The public is assured that the investigation will be conducted straightforwardly, transparently, and fairly for all involved.
The victim remains hospitalized at Maharaj Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital. The victim's relatives are determined to pursue the matter to the fullest extent. They also reported that the suspect's home is often noisy, and the victim, who has mental illness, had been verbally confronting others, which led to this incident. Meanwhile, Sikhiu Police are awaiting medical reports and a detailed investigation before deciding on further charges against those involved according to legal procedures.
