"Julapan" has ordered urgent assistance for the family of the "Thai worker" who died in South Korea, also advising on the repatriation process and benefits.
On 22 June 2026, Julapan Amornwiwat, Minister of Labor, revealed details regarding the death of a Thai worker in the Republic of Korea. Initial reports from the labor section of the Royal Thai Embassy in Seoul indicated that Wisanu Lacher, a 32-year-old Thai laborer from Chiang Rai, had traveled to work as a general industrial worker in Busan, southern South Korea, on an E9 visa since 9 January 2024. Colleagues found Wisanu had died suddenly, appearing to have fallen asleep and never awakened on the morning of 21 June 2026.
Regarding coordination, the Embassy in Seoul is currently discussing with the consular section and awaiting the South Korean police autopsy results to proceed with issuing the death certificate.
Wisanu's younger sister contacted the consular section to inquire about the procedures for repatriating the body to Thailand. The consular staff have provided guidance and detailed explanations to the family.
Concerning South Korean legal matters, the Embassy in Seoul is urgently verifying details with relevant agencies. As for the Overseas Employment Fund, Wisanu was a member; thus, his relatives can prepare documents to apply to the Department of Employment. Approval of assistance funds will follow the committee’s regulations.
The Ministry of Labor expresses its deepest condolences to Wisanu Lacher’s family and will monitor progress to ensure full support in all aspects.
