The Social Security Office is ready to support insured cancer patients to access the right to bone marrow transplantation without any cost.
Ms. Kanjana Poongkaew, Secretary-General of the Social Security Office, revealed the medical coverage provided by the Social Security Office for insured persons diagnosed with cancer who require hematopoietic stem cell transplantation or bone marrow transplantation. Patients must meet the criteria and conditions set by the Social Security Office. Coverage includes major diseases such as chronic myeloid leukemia, acute myeloid leukemia, acute lymphoblastic leukemia, lymphoma, severe aplastic anemia, pre-malignant myelodysplastic syndrome, multiple myeloma, and fibrotic myeloproliferative disorders.
Insured persons can apply for this benefit at any of the 12 Social Security Office branches in Bangkok or at provincial or branch offices convenient for them. Once approved, the Social Security Office will refer the insured for bone marrow transplantation treatment at contracted medical facilities, with no cost to the patient.
In 2025, a total of 191 insured persons were approved for bone marrow transplant benefits, with total expenses exceeding 111.35 million baht. Currently, the Social Security Office has agreements with 13 hospitals to provide hematopoietic stem cell or bone marrow transplantation services, including Chulalongkorn Hospital, Ramathibodi Hospital, Siriraj Hospital, Phramongkutklao Hospital, Songklanagarind Hospital, Srinagarind Hospital in Khon Kaen, Naresuan University Hospital, Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital, Sunpasitthiprasong Hospital, Hat Yai Hospital, Khon Kaen Hospital, Chonburi Hospital, and Chularat 3 International Hospital.
Hospitals providing treatment receive medical service fees directly from the Social Security Office. For cases using the patient's own tissue, hospitals receive 750,000 baht per case, and for cases using donor tissue, 1,300,000 baht per case. This ensures insured persons receive quality treatment and equitable access to medical services.
