
A village headman in Phatthalung denies involvement in the shooting of a local exam broker's house, saying he was merely a mediator trying to recover money for villagers. He is willing to resign if investigations find any links.
This follows a case where cyber police and the National Anti-Corruption Commission raided a house in the central region connected to a local exam cheating ring involving some government officials.
In Phatthalung Province, two assailants on a motorcycle fired shots at a government official's house, causing damage. Speculation arose that the attack was related to the local exam, amid public criticism of a broker promising exam success but failing to deliver names on the results list and refusing refunds as previously reported.
Latest developments as of 26 Jun 2026 GMT+7.Mr. Ektrawut Chaiket, 39, village headman of Village No. 4, Klong Sai Khao Subdistrict, Kong Ra District, Phatthalung Province, stated that he is not involved or connected to the shooting of the broker’s house in the local exam fraud case.He said he was only a mediator helping to negotiate the refund of 600,000 baht from the broker to two people who had paid. This broker is the father of a district official. After the full refund, the matter was considered closed. However, the district official filed a complaint with the National Anti-Corruption Commission claiming Mr. Ektrawut exerted influence by causing the refund.
Regarding the Kong Ra district chief summoning him for questioning about villagers’ allegations of involvement, Mr. Ektrawut said he attended and presented evidence showing he only sought to recover money. He insists on his innocence, stating he only mediated and was not linked to the case, merely assisting villagers. He is willing to resign if investigations prove any involvement.
