
"Wat Mangkon Kamalawat" held an event "Flower of Faith: Honoring 99 Years of Gratitude" to mark the auspicious occasion of the 99th birthday anniversary of the Supreme Patriarch Sakolmahasangkhaparinayok
On 26 June 2026 at Wat Mangkon Kamalawat (Leng Nei Yi) in Bangkok, Somdet Phra Maha Wirawong, member of the Supreme Sangha Council and secretary to the Supreme Patriarch, presided as the Buddhist chair. Mr. Sutthipong Julcharoen and Dr. Wandi Kuncharayakhong Julcharoen served as lay co-chairs. Chinese lineage monks led by Phra Maha Kanchanajarn Chinnatham Wachiracharya (Yen Yi), the Chinese Supreme Patriarch, along with Phra Kanchanajarn Chinnatham Wachiranuwat (Yen Ni), deputy Chinese Supreme Patriarch and head of the event's Buddhist committee, who is also the abbot of Wat Mangkon Kamalawat, jointly chaired and opened the event with various activities. "Flower of Faith: Honoring 99 Years of Gratitude" commemorated the auspicious 99th birthday of His Holiness Somdet Phra Ariyawongsakotyan, Supreme Patriarch Sakolmahasangkhaparinayok. The ceremony included merit-making dedicated to Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendirathep Didi, the Princess Royal, with participation from Chinese lineage monks, the organizing committee, supporters, and Buddhist devotees attending in unison.
The event featured a ritual lighting incense and candles to honor the Triple Gem and paying respects before the Supreme Patriarch's portrait. Subsequently, 100 Chinese lineage monks chanted Buddhist scriptures and the Amitabha Sutra at the Cheng Hok Tua shrine, dedicating merits and performing meditation to bring blessings to the nation and its people.
Mr. Sutthipong Julcharoen, as lay chair, offered flowers, incense, candles, and worship items before the royal portrait of Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendirathep Didi, and presented traditional offerings to the Chinese lineage monks, followed by participation in the water-pouring blessing ceremony.
Following the religious ceremonies, the exhibition “Virtuous Dragon Under the Thai-Chinese Buddhist Cultural Canopy” was inaugurated. It showcased stories of virtue, ethics, Thai-Chinese cultural relations, and Buddhism's role in connecting people and societies in both countries. Representatives from government agencies, private sector, educational institutions, charitable organizations, and the public attended in large numbers.
Additionally, certificates of appreciation and souvenirs were presented to supporters, patrons, and network partners involved in organizing the event. This honored their contributions to sustaining Buddhism and promoting moral values and good social principles.
Overall, the event reflected the powerful faith of Thai Buddhists, including those of Chinese descent, in gratefully honoring the Supreme Patriarch’s benevolence and jointly preserving the Buddhist values, culture, and ethics foundational to Thai society’s continued existence.
