The Supreme Patriarch Suspends Official Duties for Two Months Due to Back Pain

The Supreme Patriarch He is experiencing pain in the back area. Medical professionals have advised him to suspend official duties for two months to restore his health until the condition returns to normal.


On 30 June 2026, it was reported that the Office of the Supreme Patriarch announced "The Conduct of Official Duties in July and August 2026." It stated that His Holiness Somdet Phra Ariyavongsagatanana, the Supreme Patriarch, has been experiencing back pain during official duties. The medical team has provided care, leading to improvement, and has requested a temporary suspension of his official duties.

Currently aged 99 years, the medical team has requested a further two-month rest period, suspending official receptions and paying respects except for important duties which will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. This is to restore health and avoid prolonged sitting until his condition returns to normal.

This information has been reported to His Holiness, who has approved the plan. He expressed appreciation for the concern shown by the public and kindly granted blessings in response on this occasion.
