Meteorological Department Issues Heavy Rain Warning No. 12: Check List of High-Risk Provinces for Flood and Flash Flood Alerts

The Meteorological Department issued Heavy Rain Warning No. 12, listing provinces at risk and advising vigilance for thunderstorms and strong winds. Meanwhile, the "depression" in the South China Sea is expected to intensify before making landfall but will not affect Thailand.

On 2 July 2026, the websiteof the Meteorological Departmentannounced Heavy to Very Heavy Rain in Thailand and Strong Winds in the Upper Andaman Sea, Warning No. 12.

During 2-3 July 2026, Thailand will experience heavy to very heavy rain in some areas, especially in upper northeastern, eastern, and western southern regions. This is due to a monsoon trough crossing northern and upper northeastern areas combined with a fairly strong southwest monsoon covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand. Residents in these areas are urged to beware of dangers from heavy and accumulated rain that may cause flash floods and flash floods, especially in foothill areas near waterways and lowlands.

Waves in the upper Andaman Sea will be fairly strong, reaching 2-3 meters high; in areas with thunderstorms, waves may exceed 3 meters. The lower Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand will have waves about 2 meters high, with waves over 2 meters in thunderstorm areas. Mariners in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand are advised to navigate cautiously and avoid sailing in areas of thunderstorms. Small boats in the upper Andaman Sea should refrain from leaving shore during this period.

At 04:00, a depression in the central South China Sea was located at 17.5 degrees north latitude, 114.2 degrees east longitude, with maximum sustained winds near its center of about 55 kilometers per hour. It is moving northwestward slightly northward at approximately 30 kilometers per hour. It is expected to strengthen into a tropical storm and between 4–6 July 2026 will pass Hainan Island and make landfall in southern China. This storm will not directly affect Thailand's weather.
