"Luang Phi Sompong" Recounts the shocking moment an 11-year-old boy drove a pickup truck into "monk pilgrims" The death toll has now reached 8. The Mukdahan governor is preparing to hold a press conference on the incident.

Most recently, at 13:15 on 2 July 2026, reports indicate that the number of "monk pilgrims" who have died has increased by 3, bringing the total to 8. Around 13:30, the Mukdahan provincial governor will hold a press conference about the incident.

Meanwhile, the Mukdahan Rescue Association Facebook page posted a video clip from an interview with a monk present at the scene. In the clip, Luang Phi Sompong said, "While walking, I heard a whisper in my ear about something and tried to warn the group. I told everyone to keep as far right as possible. As we reached the second point, we walked closest to the right. I saw a boy driving a pickup truck approaching. I was walking and chanting 'Buddho' when the pickup came close. I jumped to the side of the road and survived from the 9th monk onwards, but the others were hit and thrown into the air."
