A 32-year-old man murdered his girlfriend in their rental room in Chonburi. Locals helped capture him by tying his hands before handing him over to police. He admitted to the crime, claiming jealousy over his girlfriend's affection for another man.
At 11:00 a.m. on 2 July 2026, Police Lieutenant Colonel Prasert Kulbutdee, Investigating Officer of Phan Thong Police Station, received a report of a murder with a deceased person found inside an unnamed rental room in Nong Hong Subdistrict, Phan Thong District, Chonburi Province. He promptly went to the scene along with Police Colonel Chairatchakit Chaipativat, Chief of Phan Thong Police Station, the duty doctor from Phan Thong Hospital, and members of the Tri Khun Tham Rescue Team.
The scene was a single-story rental room. Inside, on the bed, the body of Ms. Piyatida Chantha, 26, from Khon Noi Subdistrict, Samrong District, Ubon Ratchathani Province, was found deceased. She was wearing long jeans and a pale yellow shirt, with bruising around her neck. A blanket covered her body. Officers secured the area to prevent unauthorized access and conducted a detailed examination of the room's interior.
At the scene, Mr. Chaiwat Chadsaen, 32, from Phon Mueang Subdistrict, At Samat District, Roi Et Province, who was the perpetrator and the deceased's boyfriend, was found. Locals had helped detain him and tied his hands to a pillar inside the room to prevent escape.
During questioning, Mr. Chaiwat confessed to murdering his girlfriend. He said he strangled her with his hands at about 11:00 p.m. the previous night. Before the incident, he had been drinking and was intoxicated. An argument broke out over jealousy, as he had discovered his girlfriend had feelings for another man. Despite having given her multiple chances, her behavior did not change, leading to his loss of patience and the fatal act.
A 36-year-old local resident revealed that earlier that morning, the rental room caretaker called to report that the girlfriend's relatives were unable to contact her and requested a room check. Upon arrival, they noticed Mr. Chaiwat acting suspiciously and attempting to flee. The resident and nearby villagers chased and successfully restrained him.
The local added that after detaining the suspect, they brought him back to the room and tied him up while waiting for the police. Upon inspection, they found the woman dead on the bed. The suspect mentioned he intended to run and jump into the water to commit suicide following his girlfriend, but villagers managed to stop him in time.
Following the incident, police officers thoroughly examined the room and collected evidence. They coordinated with rescue personnel to transport the deceased to the hospital for an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Mr. Chaiwat was taken to Phan Thong Police Station for further interrogation and legal proceedings.
