
The Meteorological Department issued Announcement No. 1 warning about Tropical Storm "Maysak." The tropical depression in the upper South China Sea has strengthened into a tropical storm, causing increased and heavy rainfall in some parts of Thailand during 3-4 July 2026.
On 3 July 2026, the websiteof the Meteorological Departmentissued Announcement No. 1 regarding Tropical Storm "Maysak," stating that at 01:00 today (3 July 2026), the tropical depression in the upper South China Sea had intensified into Tropical Storm "Maysak." At 04:00, its center was located about 510 kilometers south of Nanning, China, at latitude 17.5°N and longitude 108.6°E, with maximum winds near the center of about 65 kilometers per hour. The storm is expected to pass over Hainan Island and make landfall in southern China between 4–6 July 2026. The storm’s center will not move into Thailand.
Due to the influence of Tropical Storm "Maysak" and the monsoon trough passing through northern and upper northeastern Thailand, combined with a fairly strong southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand, rainfall will increase during 3–4 July 2026. Some areas, especially in northern, upper northeastern, eastern, and southern Thailand, will experience heavy to very heavy rain. From 5–6 July 2026, heavy to very heavy rain will continue in parts of upper northern and upper northeastern Thailand.
Waves and winds in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand will strengthen, with waves in the upper Andaman Sea reaching 2–3 meters, and over 3 meters where thunderstorms occur. Waves in the lower Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand will be around 2 meters, rising above 2 meters during thunderstorms. Mariners are advised to navigate carefully and avoid sailing in areas of thunderstorms. Small boats in the upper Andaman Sea should refrain from leaving shore during this period.
