Tropical Storm Maysak Makes Landfall in Vietnam Heavy Rainfall Forecast in Parts of Thailand on 5-6 July

"Meteorological Department" (Thai Meteorological Department) Announcement No. 9 "Tropical Storm Maysak" Has made landfall in Quang Ninh Province, Vietnam. Due to the storm's influence, some areas in Thailand are experiencing heavy to very heavy rainfall.


On 5 July 2026The Meteorological DepartmentIssued Announcement No. 9 regarding "Storm Maysak," stating that at 01:00 today (5 July 2026), the strong tropical storm "Maysak" had made landfall in Quang Ninh Province, Vietnam. By 04:00 today (5 July 2026), its center was located south of Guangxi Province, China, at latitude 21.8°N and longitude 108.4°E, with maximum winds near the center around 93 km/h. It is moving north-northeast at 10 km/h and is expected to weaken to a tropical depression and then a low-pressure area. The storm center will not move into Thailand.


Due to the influence of Storm Maysak and a monsoon trough over northern Thailand and northern Laos, combined with a fairly strong southwest monsoon covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in some areas, especially in northern, upper northeastern, and eastern regions during 5-6 July 2026.


Wind and wave conditions in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand will intensify. Waves in the upper Andaman Sea will be 2-3 meters high, with waves exceeding 3 meters in areas of thunderstorms. Waves in the lower Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand will be about 2 meters, exceeding 2 meters where thunderstorms occur. Mariners are advised to navigate cautiously and avoid sailing in areas of thunderstorms. Small boats in the upper Andaman Sea should refrain from leaving shore during the indicated days and times.
