Flash Flood Destroys Cambodian Embankment Used as Substitute for Jai Chum Nia Bridge Destroyed by F-16 Strikes

A flash flood destroyed the Cambodian embankment used as a substitute for the Jai Chum Nia Bridge, which was destroyed by F-16 airstrikes. Additionally, Cambodian forces have been active near the Tamoda container fence, mobilizing villagers and monks for symbolic activities.

On 5 July 2026, reports updated the situation at the Thai-Cambodian border. It was reported that at the Jai Chum Nia Bridge site, a strong flash flood swept through and broke the embankment along the Cambodian canal, cutting off the transportation route leading to the border with Trat Province, rendering it completely unusable today.

The embankment was a temporary path created by Cambodian authorities by filling in the canal to replace the original concrete and steel bridge. This bridge had been heavily damaged by airstrikes from Thai Air Force F-16 fighter jets on 13 December 2025 during the second round of clashes. However, the embankment was constructed without drainage pipes, so it could not withstand the water pressure and accumulated floodwaters, ultimately being swept away by the flood.

Near the Tamoda container fence on the Cambodian side, villagers and a number of monks have gathered repeatedly to conduct symbolic activities at the fence line. Observations show that monks and villagers have increasingly come together to perform activities near the container fence.

Thai military and security agencies in the area have tightened surveillance and firmly stationed forces along the border to prevent sovereignty infringements and to be prepared for any rapidly changing situations.
