Factory Fire in Bang Pu Destroys 5-Story Building Structural Cracks Raise Collapse Risk

Samut Prakan faced a tense midnight fire at a synthetic fiber factory in Bang Pu, which destroyed a five-story building. Dozens of fire trucks were deployed over seven hours to contain the blaze. The building's structure has begun to crack, raising concerns about potential collapse.

At 00:30 on 6 July 2026, Police Colonel Watchara Thepsen, superintendent of Bang Pu Police Station, received a report of a fire at New World International Co., Ltd., located at 671, Village No. 2, Sukhumvit Road, Soi TJC, Bang Pu Mai Subdistrict, Mueang Samut Prakan District. He coordinated the deployment of dozens of fire trucks from Bang Pu Municipality and neighboring areas to control the fire.

At the scene, flames were engulfing Building 2, a production warehouse, before spreading to Building 1, a five-story office and synthetic fiber storage building. The fire raged intensely, covering the entire structure. Firefighters continuously sprayed water for over six hours but struggled to control the blaze due to the flammable synthetic fiber materials inside. Additionally, the roof and building structure began to collapse, with falling concrete debris, preventing internal firefighting. Water was applied from outside, and elevated fire trucks from Dan Samrong Municipality assisted with high-level water spraying. After more than seven hours, the fire was contained within a limited area.

Later, Wattana Charoenchit, district chief of Mueang Samut Prakan, accompanied by Rewat Hunarat, deputy district chief, arrived to oversee the situation. They instructed officials to exercise caution due to visible structural cracks and the risk of building collapse.

Wattana revealed that the company manufactures synthetic fiber sheets and had experienced a fire earlier in early 2025. Initial checks showed only one security guard was on duty during the holiday, with no staff present. The fire started in the production warehouse and rapidly spread to the office and fiber storage building, engulfing all five floors because the materials were highly flammable. Firefighting was difficult, and the exact cause will be determined after a detailed forensic investigation. The extent of the damage is not yet estimated.

Mahatsachai Saetang, disaster prevention officer from Bang Pu Municipality, said that after being notified around midnight, they arrived to find the fire fully ablaze. Strong winds complicated efforts, requiring dozens of fire trucks from nearby areas for support. During operations, the upper floors' structure began twisting and concrete cracked, making it too dangerous to send firefighters inside.

Mahatsachai added that the fire was hard to extinguish because most fuel was synthetic fiber, some types of which harden on contact with water. Firefighters had to separate materials before applying water. However, before entering the building, engineers must assess structural stability to ensure safety. Currently, about 70 percent of the fire is under control, with water continuing to be applied to prevent flare-ups.
