At 05:00 on 6 July 2026, Police Lieutenant Colonel Supalak Promwong, an investigator at Rattanathibet Police Station, Nonthaburi Province, received a report of a house fire inside Ngamwongwan 15 Alley, Bangkhen Subdistrict, Mueang Nonthaburi District. After receiving the report, he coordinated with the Nonthaburi Municipality Fire Department for firefighting support.
At the scene, the house was a two-story wooden structure. Firefighters deployed three fire trucks to spray water for about 30 minutes until the fire was extinguished.
Upon inspection, a dead dog was found on the ground floor. On the second floor, two charred bodies were discovered. They were identified as Mrs. Somron Meewongukho, 82, a retired civil servant and homeowner, found face down clutching a Buddha amulet, and Ms. Preeyarat Nitithamkwin, 41. The two were mother and daughter.
Ms. Thanatda Saenguthai, 43, a neighbor living next door, said she heard a loud noise while sleeping and initially thought it was a garbage truck collecting trash. When she got up and saw orange flames, she realized the adjacent house was on fire. She shouted to alert neighbors and called the police before waking the household to move their vehicles out. Shortly after, firefighters arrived and sprayed water to put out the fire.
Police officers and duty doctors from the Institute of Forensic Science conducted a joint autopsy and confirmed that both victims had died from fire burns. The fire originated on the ground floor and spread to the second floor, completely destroying the house. The preliminary cause is suspected to be an electrical short circuit. The bodies of the mother and daughter were sent for detailed autopsy at the Institute of Forensic Science to determine the exact cause of death.
