Great Charity: Man Dies from Brain Hemorrhage, Donates Organs to Help Five Others

A 60-year-old man died from a brain hemorrhage. His family decided to donate his organs—both corneas, both kidneys, and a heart valve—which can help five other people.

On 7 July 2026 at Phetchabun Hospital, Dr. Kobchai Jirachanchai, the hospital director, along with administrators, honored Mr. Somchai Pienphuangphan, 60, a resident of Village 5, Rawing Subdistrict, Mueang Phetchabun District, Phetchabun Province. Mr. Somchai died from a brain hemorrhage. His family donated his organs, including both corneas, both kidneys, and a heart valve, which can assist five other patients. Additionally, the Phetchabun Red Cross joined in presenting a funeral wreath for the occasion.

Ms. Arisara Pienphuangphan, 25, the daughter of the deceased, revealed that her father was normally very healthy and rarely ill. Last Sunday, he complained of severe headache and then collapsed. Relatives took him to Nong Phai Hospital, where doctors diagnosed a brain hemorrhage and transferred him to Phetchabun Hospital. Doctors then informed them that surgery was not possible due to the severity of his condition.

At first, the family planned to let him pass away peacefully. However, when the nurses informed them about the organ donation program, the family agreed to donate his organs as a final great merit-making act, which fit with his habit of doing good deeds. She said, "If my father could know, I want to tell him not to worry. My brother, I, and our relatives will take good care of our mother. May his spirit rest in a good place, and if reincarnation exists, may we be born as one family again."

Mrs. Chamaiporn Sithong, a specialized professional nurse and head of the Urology Surgery Ward and Organ Donation Center at Phetchabun Hospital, said the patient arrived with severe headache and extensive brain bleeding, making surgery impossible. The family was informed and consulted about the Thai Red Cross organ donation program to help other patients. The family consented to donate both corneas, both kidneys, and a heart valve, which can assist five patients.
