Relatives of a young female teacher are demanding justice after she was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver who later surrendered. The first mediation session failed as the defendant claimed no money for compensation and postponed further talks until 10 July, citing waiting for a senior figure connected to a politician to assist in negotiations.
On 7 July 2026, according to a Facebook user "Bow Sirinkon" posted a message demanding justice for her younger sister, stating: "Please share to demand justice for my sister. She had a promising future, struggling hard, determined to study, sacrificing sleep, working while preparing for exams, and recently passed the Bangkok teaching exam early this year. She was waiting to be appointed but her life ended because one person hit her and didn’t stop or even check on her. Her boyfriend had to desperately search for her alone for over ten minutes on a very dark road until he found her. The vehicle’s compulsory insurance expired since 2020 and it had no insurance. #HitAndRunNoStop #WhereIsJustice #DemandJustice"
Regarding the case update on the morning of 7 July 2026, reporters visited a house in Dan Nai subdistrict, Dan Khun Thot district, Nakhon Ratchasima province, and met Mr. Sermchai and Mrs. Maramae, parents, and Ms. Sirinkorn Adulsaraphan, elder sister of Ms. Sirithorn Adulsaraphan, aged 25, the deceased. They said that on 27 June 2026 at about 19:50, a vehicle collided with a motorcycle near Ban Nong Hua Chang, Village No. 2, Dan Nai subdistrict, Dan Khun Thot district, causing Ms. Sirithorn serious injuries. She was taken to Luang Por Koon Prasittho Hospital but later died. The suspect fled immediately. The family sought footage from CCTV or dashcams to identify the suspect.
The next morning, 28 June 2026, the suspect surrendered to Lieutenant Colonel Kusol Kaewsarnpatnuk, deputy investigation officer at Dan Khun Thot Police Station. Police interviewed both sides and arranged mediation at the police station on 3 July 2026. During mediation, the suspect admitted guilt but claimed no money for compensation. No agreement was reached, and another mediation was scheduled for 10 July, with the suspect stating they were waiting for a senior figure connected to a politician from Bangkok to join the talks.
Ms. Sirinkorn, the deceased’s elder sister, added that since the accident, the suspect never paid respects at the funeral or met with their family, only sending a relative once with an unknown amount of money in a white envelope for funeral expenses. They refused to accept or take a photo with the suspect fearing legal implications, knowing the driver was present but did not get out of the car. They worry justice will not be served and fear the case might be quietly dropped, suspecting the suspect has influential backers. They appealed to the media for justice. Before her death, Ms. Sirithorn had applied to be a teacher at Pongsiriwitthaya School, a private school in Dan Khun Thot district.
Reporters then asked Lieutenant Colonel Kusol Kaewsarnpatnuk at Dan Khun Thot Police Station, who reported that on 27 June 2026 at about 19:50, a collision occurred on the Dan Khun Thot–Nong Suang road, heading towards Ban Nong, near the entrance to Ban Nong Hua Chang, Village No. 2, Dan Nai subdistrict, Dan Khun Thot district, Nakhon Ratchasima. Police went to inspect the scene.
At the scene, the injured was a woman who was rushed by Dan Khun Thot rescue unit to Luang Por Koon Prasittho Hospital for treatment. Police found a Honda Zoomer motorcycle with Nakhon Ratchasima license plates lying on the roadside heading towards Ban Nong Suang, heavily damaged. Rescue volunteers reported the vehicle that fled was likely a white Toyota pickup truck, direction unknown. Parts of the vehicle were scattered near the scene, including a broken left side mirror, white bumper fragments, and a Toyota emblem. These were recorded, and the motorcycle was taken to the police station. Police also visited the hospital where the injured later died.
On 28 June, Mr. Prathan (surname withheld), 40, driver of a passenger vehicle with up to 7 seats, came forward to the investigator and admitted he drove the white Toyota pickup truck involved. The case was registered as traffic case no. 16/2569 for negligent driving causing death and property damage, fleeing the scene or not stopping to identify himself. He confessed to all charges, surrendered, and presented the vehicle, which police seized as evidence.
Forensic officers from Crime Lab 3 examined collision marks and tested the suspect’s urine for drugs, finding none. Alcohol level was 11 milligrams. Negotiations for compensation are ongoing but have not succeeded. A second mediation is scheduled for 10 July 2026. Up to three mediation attempts are allowed before legal proceedings continue.
