Explosion of Fireworks in Suphanburi Village Injures One Police Investigate

A firework exploded in the middle of a village in Don Chedi District, Suphanburi Province, injuring one person. Police are investigating and initially discovered illegal production without authorization.

At 16:30, police officers from Don Chedi Police Station were notified of a firework explosion in Village 5, Rai Rot Subdistrict, Don Chedi District, Suphanburi Province. The incident caused one injury. Authorities promptly arrived at the scene along with forensic experts from Suphanburi Province and related agencies.

The scene was a brick-and-mortar residence with the explosion occurring at a firework packaging facility behind the house. The facility suffered heavy damage from the blast; the roof was shattered and debris scattered around. The injured person, a male homeowner, was hurt by the explosion’s force and was previously taken to hospital by rescue workers for treatment.

Preliminary investigations suggest the firework packaging facility was illegally producing and packaging fireworks without legal permits. Authorities are gathering evidence to proceed with legal action according to the law.

Officials also reviewed footage from a CCTV camera about 100 meters from the explosion site, which clearly recorded the sound of the blast. The loud noise startled nearby villagers.

Mr. Sunthorn Buangam, 63, a local resident near the explosion, said he heard a loud blast shaking the ground and houses. The intensity was similar to a previous firework explosion in Ban Lat Chap. He noted that the house had previously produced fireworks but was ordered to stop by authorities.

However, illegal production of fireworks for funerals has continued intermittently. These fireworks are larger than bird-scaring balls and contain multiple layers of gunpowder, making the explosions particularly powerful.

Mr. Wichian Seechomphu, 83, said the blast was so loud it shook his house’s roof. Many villagers came out in shock, fearing their homes had been affected. He urged authorities to take serious action against illegal firework producers for public safety, noting that several illegal production sites remain in the village and villagers have repeatedly reported them to officials.

Forensic officials have conducted a detailed examination of the explosion site to determine the cause and inspect evidence. They confirmed the house lacked any legal permits for firework production or packaging. Authorities are collecting evidence and will proceed with legal action against those responsible.
