
A 33-year-old male employee driving his employer's Mini Cooper on an errand panicked when he encountered a police checkpoint. Attempting to turn around to escape, he lost control and crashed into a guardrail, severely damaging the vehicle.
At 4:00 p.m. on 8 July 2026, Police Lieutenant Chaiyan Cheeklang, duty officer at Muak Lek Police Station, Saraburi Province, received a report of a blue Mini Cooper with Bangkok license plates losing control and hitting a guardrail in the middle of the road. The collision caused the front left tire to explode and the front of the car to be heavily damaged. The driver was injured inside the vehicle. The incident occurred on Ban Mak - Namtok Chet Sao Noi Road, Village No. 1, Muak Lek Subdistrict, Muak Lek District, Saraburi. Police and Ruamkatanyu Foundation emergency responders promptly arrived at the scene.
The accident site was on a left-hand curve. Officials found the blue Mini Cooper with a severely damaged front after losing control and crashing into the guardrail, resulting in a blown right front tire and smashed front end. The injured driver, identified as Chawalit, 33, suffered a chest injury from the impact. Emergency responders extracted him from the car and transported him to Muak Lek Hospital.
At that time, reporters interviewed the injured driver, who spoke incoherently in a manner resembling intoxication. Authorities then promptly took him to Muak Lek Hospital in Saraburi for medical care.
A local resident who witnessed the incident and came to help recounted that while tending cattle by the roadside, he saw the vehicle approaching the curve at high speed. The car then lost control and crashed into the center guardrail with a loud explosion, spinning before coming to rest. Upon noticing the injured person inside, he rushed to assist.
Initially, the driver told him he had been driving when he saw a police checkpoint, so he tried to turn around to avoid it. However, he lost control and crashed into the guardrail, sustaining injuries. The witness then contacted emergency services.
Preliminary information indicates the injured driver was running an errand for his employer when he encountered the checkpoint. Possibly frightened, he hesitated to continue and attempted to turn around at speed, losing control and crashing into the road guardrail, causing injury.
Police will continue investigating the cause of the accident and are awaiting results from tests to detect drugs or alcohol in the driver's system.
