Water leak in the Purple Line MRT tunnel Additional cracks were found near the incident site but remain within the original 30-meter restricted zone; officials have extended the safety barriers accordingly.
At 18:00 on 10 July 2026, Mr. Thanet Weerasiri, advisor to the Engineering Institute of Thailand, provided an update on the water seepage inside the Purple Line MRT construction tunnel. He said the road surface subsidence shows signs of improvement. Yesterday, the road surface subsided about 20 centimeters, but in the past 24 hours, the subsidence increased by only 8 centimeters, a positive sign. This contrasts with yesterday’s continuous subsidence averaging 1-2 centimeters per hour. Currently, the subsidence occurs intermittently, depending on conditions at the site at different times.
This evening, officials expanded the crack restriction area by another 3 meters due to visible widening of cracks on Prachathipok Road near Wongwian Yai roundabout close to the incident site. However, this expansion remains within the original 30-meter safety radius. To ensure safety, the restricted area has been extended.
Mr. Thanet added that officials are working diligently. He noted that upcoming rainfall will not significantly affect the work, only making it slightly more difficult. The main issue is groundwater beneath the surface. Authorities are continuously monitoring the situation and so far, no additional problems have arisen.
