10 Injured as Air-Conditioned Bus Loses Control, Hits Sidewalk Tree on Lat Phrao Road

At least 10 people were injured when an air-conditioned bus on route 145 lost control and crashed onto the sidewalk, hitting a signal control box and a roadside tree on Lat Phrao Soi 112 in Wang Thonglang district. The driver claimed brake failure.

At 07:13 on 11 Jul 2026 GMT+7, Police Lieutenant Colonel Sawat Satkaew, Deputy Investigation Officer of Chokchai Police Station, received a report of an air-conditioned bus accident involving a collision with a tree and injuries. The incident occurred in front of Bangkok Wittaya School, Lat Phrao Soi 112, Phlapphla subdistrict, Wang Thonglang district, Bangkok. Authorities, including Police Colonel Phontavee Somwong, Chief of Chokchai Police Station, Police Lieutenant Colonel Narongchai Khunbuala, Deputy Traffic Commander, and volunteers from Poh Teck Tung Foundation, promptly went to the scene.

At the scene, the accident involved an air-conditioned bus, route 145, vehicle number 2-70172, running between Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal (Bangkok Bus Terminal, Chatuchak) and Praeksa Depot (Bangkok Municipality Soi Bang Pu 39/Praeksa Soi), light blue color 162311, registered in Bangkok. It crashed into a traffic signal control box, destroying it, and uprooted a large roadside tree. The front of the bus was heavily damaged, lodged against the fallen tree which had broken.

Initially, passengers had safely disembarked from the bus. A total of 10 people were injured—8 women and 2 men. Authorities transported 7 of them to Petchwet Hospital, including:

  • Mrs. Matana Meunthep, 58 years old.
  • Mr. Maung Htone, 44, from Myanmar.
  • Ms. Sinilak Kompaengchan, 52 years old.
  • Ms. Thanyarat Iamsongkram, 42 years old.
  • Ms. Nongnuch Tiangchat, 54 years old.
  • Ms. Nuchrin Tutsanti, 37 years old.
  • Mrs. Jongrak Nima, 63 years old.

Three others were sent to Lat Phrao Hospital: Ms. Butsabong Srilapan, 28 years old; Mr. Boonchai Chanasarn, 53 years old (the bus driver); and Ms. Subumarn Jakkujarn, 47 years old.

Investigation revealed that before the accident, driver Boonchai Chanasarn was driving with few passengers aboard. At the crash site, the engine malfunctioned causing brake failure, which led the bus to lose control, mount the sidewalk, and crash into the traffic signal control box and roadside trees. Two to three pedestrians on the sidewalk were also injured along with those inside the bus. Injured individuals were taken to hospitals. Traffic police from Chokchai station managed traffic by blocking one left lane while awaiting a heavy tow truck to move the bus off the road.

Authorities will review CCTV footage and conduct a detailed investigation of the bus driver before proceeding with legal action according to the law.
