Progress in the "leaking water in the MRT tunnel" near Wongwian Yai: the pedestrian bridge has recently been dismantled to reduce pressure and open space for heavy machinery to operate and inject cement to reinforce the soil layers. The road surface subsidence remains on a positive trend.
Update on the case of water leaking into the construction area of the Purple Line MRT tunnel in the Tao Poon–Rat Burana section, near Wongwian Yai.
At 10:00 a.m. on 11 Jul 2026 GMT+7, reports stated that overnight, contractors accelerated the removal of the pedestrian bridge at Wongwian Yai, completing it by morning. The remaining parts of the bridge have been dismantled and stored. The command center for the Purple Line MRT tunnel leak near Wongwian Yai held a morning meeting to plan and review the situation.
Lieutenant Detathon Saeng-amnat, Director of Thonburi District, said an initial assessment found that the sealing of a leak inside the tunnel using cement grouting has succeeded at one point. The water level inside the tunnel remains stable, and the amount of water leaking into the tunnel appears to be decreasing.
Contractors have increased machinery on site to halt and prevent further water leakage into the tunnel. So far, 170 cubic meters of chemical sealant have been used. Overall, the building structure has not shown additional subsidence.
The subsiding road surface has stabilized and shows a positive trend, at a controllable level. Originally, the situation was expected to resolve within three days; now, the timeline is being reassessed. Traffic closures remain dependent on the evolving situation. Daily evaluations by contractors continue, focusing separately from cracks. Efforts are underway to expedite full contractor operations.
Contractors have brought in additional machinery. This morning, the pedestrian bridge was completely dismantled to allow larger equipment into the work area and to reduce the weight pressing from above.
Regarding evacuations, the contractor has coordinated with affected residents about accommodations. At risk locations, residents have been advised to either relocate or monitor buildings for increasing cracks. The district has not issued further evacuation orders.
