Khao Yai Tightens Checks on Modified Motorcycles with Loud Exhausts Riders Using Steel Wool to Fool Inspectors Miss Out on Breakfast Omelet

Officials at Khao Yai National Park have intensified inspections at checkpoints measuring exhaust noise from modified sport motorcycles. After a group of riders from Chonburi embarked on a “one-day trip to Khao Yai, nature within reach,” they attempted to deceive officials by stuffing steel wool into exhausts to muffle noise. They complained about already being fined 1,000 baht each by police. Upon reaching the Nern Hom checkpoint, their exhausts failed inspection, causing them to miss out on a breakfast of omelet rice.

The case involves social media posts inviting others to join a motorcycle trip to Khao Yai National Park on Sunday, 12 July 2026. The message said, “First time to Khao Yai—any advice, please? One-day trip to Khao Yai, nature within reach.” The group planned to depart at 3:00 a.m. from Ban Bueng, meeting first at PTT gas station Nern Hin, then at PTT Gateway, with the final destination being the Khao Yai National Park checkpoint at Nern Hom.

This morning (12 July 2026) at the Nern Hom checkpoint (entrance to Khao Yai National Park on the Prachinburi side), groups of motorcycles from various areas, especially with Chonburi registrations, arrived to pay the entrance fee. Park officials inspected the motorcycles and found several had modified exhausts by stuffing steel wool inside to reduce noise. However, officials detected this trick and asked owners to remove the steel wool. Using sound level meters, they found most exhausts still exceeded 95 decibels, so entry to Khao Yai was denied.

When interviewed, the motorcycle group said they had gathered to visit Khao Yai, leaving Chonburi around 4:00 a.m. Along the way, police had already stopped them for loud exhausts and fined each rider 1,000 baht.

But when they reached the Khao Yai checkpoint, their exhausts failed inspection again, causing them to miss breakfast of omelet rice at Pha Trawm Jai viewpoint in Khao Yai. As a result, they changed their plans to visit Wang Won Reservoir and Khun Dan Prakarn Chon Dam in Nakhon Nayok Province instead.
