Black Swans Found Wandering in Surin Owner Reclaims Them, Revealing Price Near 100,000 Baht

Villagers found “black swans” walking along a road in Surin province and quickly notified rescue volunteers, who took them to a center. The owner has now reclaimed them, revealing that two swans had escaped from their home with a combined value near 100,000 baht.

At 11:30 a.m. on 12 July 2026, the rescue radio center received a report from villagers who spotted swans near the Salakdai traffic light intersection on the Surin–Lamduan road. They coordinated with rescue volunteers to capture the swans and search for their real owner.

News teams at the Surin rescue center found a swan tied by one leg with a rope and a water basin placed beside it. The black swan showed no signs of panic but would hiss if someone approached. Overall, it appeared tame, and rescue volunteers were caring for it.

The team then met with Mr. Pitipong Phuengthong (Khun Jay), a rescue volunteer who captured the black swan as reported by villagers. He brought it to the Surin rescue center and announced publicly to find the rightful owner to take the swan back home.

Mr. Pitipong Phuengthong (Khun Jay), the Surin rescue volunteer who retrieved the black swan, told reporters that earlier that morning he was informed about a black swan seen in the middle of the road. He went to pick it up and found it near a motorcycle shop. Although the swan was somewhat startled, it remained tame. He lifted it onto his lap without it pecking or making noise, then brought it to the rescue center. He publicized the search for its owner, inviting anyone claiming ownership to contact Surin Rescue at phone number 044-518600.

At 3:00 p.m., the black swan owner contacted Surin Rescue and came to collect the birds. One swan was at the rescue center and the other remained near the police booth at the Salakdai traffic light intersection. Both had escaped from the owner’s home. The owner said they keep a total of eight black swans and that these two escaped. Together, the two swans are worth about 100,000 baht.
