Weather Today: Heavy Rain in Some Areas of Thailand Strong Winds and Waves in the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea Sailing Caution Advised

The Meteorological Department reports that today Thailand will experience heavy rain in some areas. Strong winds and waves are present in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, with warnings to avoid sailing in regions with thunderstorms.

On 13 July 2026, the Meteorological Department forecasts that over the next 24 hours, heavy rain will occur in parts of Thailand, with very heavy rain in the upper northeastern region, western central region, eastern region, and the western coast of the south. This is due to the strong southwest monsoon covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand, combined with a low-pressure area over northern Vietnam. Residents in these areas should be cautious of dangers from heavy to very heavy rain and accumulated rainfall that may cause flash floods and flash floods, especially in foothill areas near waterways and lowlands.

Winds and waves in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand are strong, with wave heights of 2-4 meters in the upper Andaman Sea and waves exceeding 4 meters in thunderstorm areas. The lower Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand have waves 2-3 meters high, rising above 3 meters where thunderstorms occur. Mariners are advised to navigate with caution and avoid sailing in thunderstorm areas. Small boats in the Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand should refrain from leaving shore.
This restriction applies until 15 July 2026. Coastal residents on the western side of southern Thailand should be cautious of waves crashing ashore.

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm "Bavi" is located over Anhui Province, China, expected to weaken into a depression and then a strong low-pressure area. This storm will not move into Thailand. Travelers to that region are advised to check weather conditions before departure.

Northern Region There is a 70% chance of thunderstorms with heavy rain in some areas including Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, and Tak provinces. Lowest temperatures range from 22-25°C, highest from 30-34°C. Southwest winds blow at 10-20 km/h.

Northeastern Region There is a 70% chance of thunderstorms with heavy to very heavy rain in some areas including Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, Amnat Charoen, and Ubon Ratchathani provinces. Lowest temperatures range from 22-24°C, highest from 28-35°C. Southwest winds blow at 10-20 km/h.

Central Region There is a 40% chance of thunderstorms with heavy to very heavy rain in some areas including Kanchanaburi and Ratchaburi provinces. Lowest temperatures range from 23-25°C, highest from 31-36°C. Southwest winds blow at 10-25 km/h.

Eastern Region There is a 60% chance of thunderstorms with heavy to very heavy rain in some areas including Nakhon Nayok, Prachinburi, Sa Kaeo, Chanthaburi, and Trat provinces. Lowest temperatures range from 24-27°C, highest from 29-35°C. Southwest winds blow at 20-40 km/h. The sea has waves 2-3 meters high, exceeding 3 meters in thunderstorm areas.

Southern Region (East Coast) There is a 40% chance of thunderstorms with heavy rain in some areas including Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, and Surat Thani provinces. Lowest temperatures range from 22-25°C, highest from 30-34°C. From Surat Thani northwards, southwest winds blow at 20-40 km/h with sea waves 1-2 meters high, rising above 2 meters offshore and in thunderstorm areas. From Nakhon Si Thammarat southwards, southwest winds blow at 20-35 km/h with sea waves 1-2 meters high and about 2 meters offshore, rising above 2 meters in thunderstorm areas.

Southern Region (West Coast) There is a 70% chance of thunderstorms with heavy to very heavy rain in some areas including Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, and Krabi provinces. Lowest temperatures range from 24-27°C, highest from 30-33°C. From Phuket northwards, southwest winds blow at 20-45 km/h with sea waves 2-4 meters high, exceeding 4 meters in thunderstorm areas. From Krabi southwards, southwest winds blow at 20-40 km/h with sea waves 2-3 meters high, rising above 3 meters in thunderstorm areas.

Bangkok and Surrounding Areas There is a 60% chance of rain or thunderstorms. Lowest temperatures range from 25-27°C, highest from 34-35°C. Southwest winds blow at 10-30 km/h.
