Chadchart Just Learned That Owner of Lat Phrao Beer Hall Also Owned a Similar Venue That Burned Down in Yasothon

Chadchart, Governor of Bangkok, admitted he had just learned it is unclear whether the owner of the Lat Phrao Beer Hall is the same individual who owned a semi-pub that also caught fire in 2019. He stated the location is not on State Railway of Thailand land.

On 13 July 2026, a fire broke out at the Lat Phrao Beer Hall near Lat Phrao Soi 1. Authorities have now fully contained the blaze. The latest reports confirm 27 fatalities—9 men and 18 women—and 63 others injured, as previously reported.

Regarding this, Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, spoke before a Bangkok Metropolitan Council meeting at City Hall 2, Din Daeng, at the Ai Yarawat Phatthana building. Following social media revelations that the operator of the Lat Phrao Beer Hall previously ran a similar business in Yasothon province, which also experienced a fire, and then reopened in Bangkok, he was asked if any background checks had been conducted. Chadchart said he had just learned about this but emphasized the need to thoroughly investigate the incident site. Regardless of the operator’s past, any wrongdoing must be addressed, and they must verify if the business complies with legal requirements and matches official records. Currently, Bangkok’s databases do not provide such detailed information, but future checks will improve transparency. He confirmed the fire site is leased private property, not belonging to the State Railway of Thailand.

When asked whether inspections of similar types of restaurants would be carried out across all 50 districts of Bangkok, Chadchart said the city plans to conduct such checks. However, inspections will be extended to cover the actual operating hours of these venues. While premises may appear compliant during inspections, conditions can change when open for business, especially during concerts or crowded events. Therefore, random spot checks during operating times will be implemented in the future.

Reports indicate that the owner of the Lat Phrao Beer Hall was among those injured in the fire and has been hospitalized. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
