Destruction of 31 Tons of Illegal Health Products Worth Over 300 Million Baht

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), together with the Royal Thai Police and partner networks, destroyed 31 tons of illegal health products valued at over 300 million baht.

On 13 July 2026, Pharmacist Suphattra Boonserm, Secretary-General of the Food and Drug Administration, revealed that the FDA collaborated with the Royal Thai Police, specifically the Central Investigation Bureau's Consumer Protection Division and Intellectual Property Crime Division, the Department of Special Investigation (DSI), and provincial public health offices to aggressively crack down on offenders involved in health products, including manufacturers, importers, and sellers. Once cases are finalized, seized products become property of the Ministry of Public Health and must be destroyed, as these goods are illegally produced or imported without authorization, lack Thai labels, and are unsafe for consumption, thus cannot be used or distributed.

The seized items destroyed this time totaled 1,376 types, over 3 million pieces, from 131 cases, including 90 cases of cosmetics, 51 food cases, 32 drug cases, 45 cosmetic cases (note: repetition in source text likely a typo), 2 medical device cases, and 1 hazardous substance case.

Key cases included a warehouse illegally importing Lyn Mie brand sanitary pads in Bang Khun Thian; a factory illicitly producing fake cough medicine in Pathum Thani; networks smuggling and selling beauty supplement products infringing trademarks of fillers and Botox from abroad; illegal importation of cosmetics such as shampoo, toothpaste, sunscreen, and makeup remover; a Chinese supermarket importing food products illegally from China in Rama 9 area; illicit production of medical gloves in Nong Suea district, Pathum Thani; illegal import of nitrous oxide (laughing gas); and unauthorized import of mosquito repellent brand Laojun. All seized products in these cases posed potential health risks to the public.

The FDA Secretary-General added that today’s destruction reaffirms the commitment of the FDA, the Royal Thai Police, and all related agencies to cut off the illegal health product supply chain from origin to endpoint, ensuring seized goods do not re-enter circulation. This effort builds public confidence that health products sold in Thailand are strictly regulated. The public is encouraged to report any illegal production, import, or sale of health products via the FDA hotline 1556 or through FDA channels for authorities to take legal action.
