A firework explosion rocked Phetchaburi city, damaging nearly 10 houses. Two people, a former village headman and his wife, were injured.
On 14 July 2026 at 12:45 GMT+7, Police Lieutenant Colonel Arthit Boonkeroh, Deputy Superintendent (Investigation) of Mueang Phetchaburi Police Station, received a report of a firework explosion at Ban Rai Tin Nam, Village No. 2, Ton Mamuang Subdistrict, Mueang Phetchaburi District, Phetchaburi Province. The incident caused injuries and damage to over 10 houses. He reported the situation to Police Colonel Chokchai Nielsen, Superintendent of Mueang Phetchaburi Police Station, and Mr. Kanoksak Muthakan, Mayor of Ton Mamuang Subdistrict Municipality, who promptly went to inspect the scene.
Before police arrived, local good Samaritans and rescue personnel from Ton Mamuang Municipality rushed to aid two injured individuals. They were transported to Phrachomklao Hospital in Phetchaburi. The injured were later identified as Mr. Songkran, also known as Kamnan Muek, 68, a former village headman of Ton Mamuang Subdistrict, and Mrs. Nantapat, 42, his wife. Both sustained minor injuries with abrasions across their bodies.
At the scene, nearly 10 houses sustained damage from the blast, including collapsed roofs, peeling ceiling panels, and shattered glass in doors and windows. Additionally, two vehicles—a sedan and a pickup truck—were damaged by the explosion. The extent of the damage is still being assessed pending a detailed investigation by forensic police officers.
Initial investigations revealed that prior to the explosion, Mr. Songkran and Mrs. Nantapat were residing in the affected house. The firework, placed near the garage and made from black powder, detonated loudly, with the blast audible over 10 kilometers away. The explosion caused damage to nearly 10 nearby houses.
Reports also indicated that the household had official permission from Mueang Phetchaburi District to operate a legal firework manufacturing business. The operation has been ongoing for over 40 years without any previous incidents.
Currently, police have cordoned off the scene, prohibiting unauthorized personnel from disturbing the evidence. Forensic officers from the Phetchaburi Provincial Police are expected to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause.
