Gunshots Heard at Chong Woe Area, Surin Province: Thai Soldiers Fire Warning Shots and Maintain Close Surveillance

The 2nd Army Region reports on the border situation. Chong Woe area. At Kabchoeng District, Surin Province, this morning, three rifle shots were heard about 500 meters from the military base. Thai forces fired five warning shots; Cambodia did not respond. The situation has returned to normal but remains under close surveillance.

On 15 July 2026, the Facebook page of  the 2nd Army Region posted a statement clarifying the incident near the military base in Nang Mud Subdistrict, Kabchoeng District, Surin Province (15 July 2026), stating that

Facts discovered.

At 07:30, at the military base in the Chong Woe area east of Prasat Ta Kwai and west of Prasat Khna in Nang Mud Subdistrict, Kabchoeng District, Surin Province, three rifle shots were heard. The source of the shots was about 500 meters south of our military base.

Thai forces' actions.  

  • All personnel are safe.
  • The unit fired five warning shots according to security protocols.

Inspection results.

  • Cambodian forces did not respond.
  • The situation has returned to normal.

Units continue to monitor and closely watch the area.

Forces in the area remain vigilant, continuously monitoring the situation to maintain border security and ensure the safety of personnel and civilians.
