Meteorological Department Warns of Increased Rain and Heavy Showers in Thailand from 20 to 23 July 2026

Prepare for increased rainfall: The Meteorological Department forecasts rain will increase in Thailand from 20 to 23 July 2026, with heavy showers in some areas, particularly in the North and the western parts of the Central region.

On 17 July 2026, Facebook posted "Meteorological Department" shared a graphic weather forecast by region along with a risk map for potential hazards dated 17 July 2026 at 05:00, stating that

Weather forecast for the next 24 hours (17 July 2026): Rainfall will decrease across Thailand due to a moderate southwest monsoon covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand, while a low-pressure area covers northern Vietnam. Residents in upper Thailand are advised to be cautious of heavy and accumulated rain that may cause flash floods and forest runoff, especially in foothill areas near waterways and lowlands.

Waves and winds in the upper Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand are moderate, with wave heights of 1-2 meters. In the lower Andaman Sea, waves are about 1 meter high. Areas with thunderstorms may have waves exceeding 2 meters. Seafarers are urged to navigate carefully and avoid sailing in areas with thunderstorms.

7-day forecast: From 16 to 19 July 2026, rainfall in Thailand will decrease but heavy showers will still occur in parts of the North and upper Northeast due to the low-pressure area over northern Vietnam. Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand will weaken.

Wave and wind strength in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand will reduce to moderate, with the upper Andaman Sea having waves about 2 meters high, and areas with thunderstorms experiencing waves over 2 meters. The lower Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand will have waves of 1-2 meters, with thunderstorm areas exceeding 2 meters.

From 20 to 23 July 2026, rainfall will increase with heavy showers in some areas, especially in the North and western Central region, due to a low-pressure area over Laos and northern Vietnam. The southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand will intensify. Waves and winds in these seas remain moderate, with the upper Andaman Sea having waves around 2 meters, exceeding 2 meters in thunderstorm areas, and the lower Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand having waves of 1-2 meters, also exceeding 2 meters in thunderstorm zones.

Precautions: From 20 to 23 July 2026, residents across Thailand, especially in the North and western Central region, should be alert to heavy and accumulated rainfall that may cause flash floods, forest runoff, and river overflows, especially in foothill areas near waterways and lowlands. Seafarers in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand should navigate cautiously and avoid areas with thunderstorms.

Earthquake situation (16 - 17 July 2026): Earthquakes measuring 3.8 magnitude with epicenter in Yunnan province, China, and 2.2 magnitude in Wiang Haeng subdistrict, Wiang Haeng district, Chiang Mai province, were detected. These events have no impact on Thailand.
