The Social Security Office conducted a field investigation into medical service standards after Teacher Sai reported her husband's sudden death; if any deficiencies are found, penalties will be enforced.
Regarding the case of Teacher Sai the wife of Mr. Panupon Meesuk, or Foom, aged 31, who posted a video appealing for justice after her husband’s sudden death. She claimed that doctors at San Camillo Hospital in Ban Pong District, Ratchaburi Province, diagnosed him with panic disorder and refused to perform an electrocardiogram (EKG) despite family requests and willingness to pay. The doctors also made discouraging remarks. That evening, her husband went into shock and died in front of the family. The autopsy revealed that the cause of death was two-vessel coronary artery disease.
Most recently, at 14:30 on 18 July 2026, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nakarin Pinpathomrat, Director of the Medical Service System Bureau and deputy spokesperson of the Social Security Office (SSO), went to inspect the medical service standards. He revealed that preliminary data shows that on 16 July 2026, the deceased insured person, Mr. Panupon, sought treatment for fatigue and chest pain radiating to the arm. He was examined by an internist before being referred to an orthopedic specialist.
The orthopedic specialist concluded that the symptoms were unrelated to bone issues and sent him back to the internist. The internist diagnosed the symptoms as anxiety. Despite family requests for cardiac testing because the patient was sweating excessively and had chest pain radiating to the arm, the request was denied and the patient was sent home. Later, around 16:00 that same day, the patient went into shock, lost consciousness, and died.
The Social Security Office is gathering all information to present to the subcommittee on medical service quality standards next week. If the investigation finds that the hospital provided substandard care or breached the medical service contract, the SSO will immediately penalize the hospital by reducing the number of insured patients allowed.
Furthermore, if the insured person suffered harm due to medical services, the heirs may apply for preliminary financial assistance at the Social Security Office. The case will be reviewed by the subcommittee on preliminary assistance payments. If eligible for death compensation, the heirs can receive up to 400,000 baht.
Regarding protection and benefits for heirs, they can submit claims at any convenient Social Security Office branch. Initial benefits include funeral expenses of 50,000 baht, old-age contribution funds totaling 58,405 baht plus accrued interest, and death benefits of 30,000 baht.
It was recently reported that the management team of San Camillo Hospital traveled to attend the funeral rites and express condolences to the deceased’s family at Bamphen Nuea Temple, Sala 10, Min Buri District, Bangkok.
