At 13:00 on 22 Jul 2026 GMT+7, General Ukrit Boontanon, Supreme Commander, along with his team, inspected the construction progress of the border fence between boundary markers 52 and 50-4, covering a total distance of 1.3 kilometers, with work currently over 78.56% complete.
Construction is divided into three phases: the first phase, 350 meters long, is complete except for finishing touches; the second phase, 450 meters, is undergoing installation of concertina wire; the third phase, 410 meters, is under construction on a sloped area.
Officials explained the fence uses special concrete piles supporting 18 tons each, with foundations reinforced from 25 to 40 centimeters thick to bear up to 26 tons. High-strength concrete and specially coated steel materials are used to enhance durability and lifespan.
The Supreme Commander stated that construction involves coordination with Cambodian authorities at every step, with no operational issues. He emphasized that areas where permanent fencing cannot yet be built will be secured using temporary barriers and appropriate alternative measures.
Additionally, the military is enhancing border area safety by constructing shelters, reinforcing sandbags, and building protective pits for residents, schools, and communities near the border, with cooperation from various sectors and public support.
General Ukrit emphasized that all procedures adhere to engineering principles, security, and long-term impact considerations. He welcomes feedback from all parties to develop a model border fence that maximizes sovereignty protection and national security, confirming all decisions are made carefully with ongoing progress reports to follow.
