The road has severely sunk over a length of more than 30 meters, disrupting traffic. The Pathum Thani Provincial Administration swiftly closed the road, installed nighttime warning lights, deployed machinery for temporary repairs, and maintained 24-hour monitoring to ensure safety throughout the night. At 18:00 on 22 July 2026, Mr. Siraphop Niyomdech, the District Chief of Lat Lum Kaeo, along with Mr. Nopporn Khawkhum, Deputy Chief of Pathum Thani Provincial Administration Organization (PAO), Mr. Chaiwat Inlert, Chairman of the PAO Council, Mr. Somron Taengorn, District Councilor for Lat Lum Kaeo District 1, Mr. Suriya Piromphrom, Chief Executive of Lat Lum Kaeo Subdistrict Administrative Organization (SAO), and Mr. Pidchayut Chantra, construction supervisor for the new canal floodgate project, jointly inspected the rural road Pathum Thani 3020 beside the new canal in Village 5. They found a subsidence about 8 meters wide and over 30 meters long at the floodgate construction site. The site looked very dangerous, and if a vehicle fell in, it could cause injury or death, especially at night.Tags: [inspection, Pathum Thani rural road, officials, road subsidence, safety concern]
The investigation revealed that the subsidence was caused by a second rupture of an underground water pipe beneath the road surface, leading to severe water seepage that eroded the soil layer under the road. Additionally, adjacent areas were under excavation for the floodgate construction, so there was no water in the canal to support the embankment. As a result, the soil layers slid and collapsed into the construction site, causing rapid road subsidence.Tags: [cause analysis, water pipe rupture, soil erosion, construction impact, road collapse]
To address and restore the area, the plan is to expedite the Provincial Waterworks Authority to cut off and repair the broken water pipe by the following morning to stop water seepage beneath the soil. Once the water flow stops and the soil begins to dry, the contractor will scrape off the old road surface, compact the soil firmly, and then apply a temporary road surface to reopen at least one traffic lane for public use as soon as possible.Tags: [repair plan, water pipe fix, soil compaction, temporary road surface, traffic restoration]
The contractor will then quickly pour concrete foundation beneath the embankment to support it and complete this as soon as possible. They will monitor water levels during the rainy season; if water flows, it will be allowed to pass through the area to prevent further damage. Pathum Thani PAO has prepared machinery, equipment, and personnel, coordinating with community leaders to monitor and ensure safety throughout the night.Tags: [foundation repair, flood monitoring, machinery deployment, community coordination, safety measures]
Mr. Siraphop Niyomdech, District Chief of Lat Lum Kaeo, said, “Yesterday, the subsidence kept worsening. We were concerned that traffic would cause further collapse, so we needed to create a temporary detour as an initial measure. Today, because repairs must be done quickly for the public’s benefit, I joined the site visit with the PAO Council Chairman, SAO Chief, district councilor, and representatives from the Royal Irrigation Department and contractor to find solutions. Initially, we need to make the road usable to reduce water causing soil subsidence and provide temporary traffic access along the full route for some time.”Tags: [official statement, temporary detour, quick repairs, public safety, collaboration]
Mr. Pidchayut Chantra, construction supervisor for the floodgate project, said, “The cause was a broken water pipe; this is the second time. We have informed the waterworks authority, and they sent a team to expedite repairs because I requested urgent help to stop water seeping beneath the road, which causes subsidence and sinkholes. I will first quickly pour concrete underneath to support the soil. Once the water stops flowing and the soil dries, I will promptly scrape off the road surface and compact it to restore at least one traffic lane so vehicles can pass.”Tags: [construction supervisor, water pipe break, urgent repair, soil support, traffic restoration]
Mr. Chaiwat Inlert, Chairman of the Pathum Thani PAO Council, said, “Currently, Police Lieutenant General Kamronwit Thupkrajang, the PAO Chief, is attending to other duties and has assigned me, along with district councilors, the district chief, and the SAO chief, to visit the site. We have discussed with the Royal Irrigation Department and the contractor to urgently solve the problem. We have already coordinated with the waterworks authority, who responded that they will complete pipe repairs by tomorrow morning. The contractor will then quickly repair the road surface. This route experiences heavy traffic. The PAO Chief emphasized assisting the public; if the PAO can help, we have machinery and equipment ready for immediate action. We assure the public not to worry; the PAO and community leaders will monitor safety throughout the night.”Tags: [PAO chairman statement, coordination, urgent repair, traffic importance, public reassurance]
