Great Charity: 5-Year-Old Nong Namnueng Donates Her Eyes to Bring Light to Others

Great charity by Nong Namnueng, a 5-year-old girl from Sukhothai who drowned and died; her family chose to donate her eyes to pass on light to others.

On 24 July 2026, it was reported that “Nong Namnueng” Chanthachonok Auporn, a 5-year-old girl from Sukhothai Province, fell into the Yom River in Si Samrong District, Sukhothai, on 20 July. Rescue workers and locals searched for her, then pulled her from the water and performed CPR before rushing her to the hospital.

Despite doctors' and staff's best efforts, Nong Namnueng passed away peacefully. Her family made the important decision to donate her eyes as a final great merit for her, helping many patients still awaiting treatment. Organ and eye donation brings merit to the donor and new life to the recipients.

On 23 July, Mrs. Thitiporn Sirikosol, President of the Sukhothai Red Cross Chapter, Dr. Somjet Chaicharoen, Director of Srisangwan Sukhothai Hospital, along with Red Cross members and hospital staff, presented a certificate of appreciation from the Thai Red Cross Eye Bank and a wreath to honor and thank Nong Namnueng’s family.

After the family donated two corneas to the Thai Red Cross Eye Bank to give new life to those waiting for organs, gratitude was expressed for their generous spirit. May the merit from this good deed bless and guide the soul of Chanthachonok Auporn to a better place.
