Seven-Year-Old Twin Brothers Drown Together Likely Went to Play in Water While Grandmother Was Away

A family is grieving after their seven-year-old twin boys drowned in a pond near their home. It is believed they took advantage of the moment their grandmother went out to cut grass for the cows to go play in the water. Their mother hurried back from another province, crying and unable to come to terms with losing both children at once.

Reporters state a tragic incident occurred when seven-year-old twin boys drowned in a pond amid rice fields at Ban Khok Miya, Village No. 7, Ron Thong Subdistrict, Satuek District, Buriram Province. The Wang Krud Rescue team searched the pond and retrieved the bodies before bringing them back to the house. The incident happened in the evening of 25 July.

At the home of the deceased, relatives and villagers were helping prepare the site for the funeral ceremony amid the community’s deep sorrow.

Mrs. Uea Somram, 60, the grandmother, was still weeping mournfully as she lit incense in front of the coffins of the twin boys, Praput, known as Nong Fluke, and Pannaporn, known as Nong Film, both aged seven. She called their names, wishing them to rest in a better realm, while relatives continuously came to offer support to the family.

Mrs. Uea recounted that the children’s parents work in Chonburi Province, so she was entrusted with their care. On the afternoon of 25 July, she went out to cut grass for the cows, instructing her 13-year-old granddaughter to watch over the twins and repeatedly warned the boys not to play in the water or with fire because it was dangerous.

Around 5 p.m., when she returned home, the twins were missing. She immediately searched the area and eventually reached the pond behind the village, where she found both boys had drowned. She admitted she always worried about them whenever she left but never imagined they would sneak away to play in the water, resulting in this tragic accident.

Police initially suspect the twins encouraged each other to play in the water. Due to the pond’s depth and steep edges, they likely slipped and fell in. Being only seven years old, they were unable to save themselves and drowned.

Ms. Jitkanya Manjamroon, 29, the twins’ mother who works in Chonburi Province, tearfully revealed that she immediately returned to Buriram upon hearing the news late last night. She still cannot accept the loss, as her sons were the family’s greatest joy. She spoke to them almost daily, constantly reminding them about water safety and never imagined losing both sons at the same time.

Reporters who visited the scene found the pond located about 200 meters from the home in the middle of rice fields. It is nearly five meters deep with steep edges—the area where authorities found the boys’ bodies.
