Authorities have reopened the route where a bombing and shooting killed five rangers in "Tanyongmas." Strict checkpoints have been set up, and locals say they are accustomed to the "martial law" and continue shopping as usual at the market.
The economic area of Tanyongmas has begun to revive after officials announced the reopening of the route where militants ambushed rangers. Meanwhile, the 4509th Ranger Task Force continues to maintain stringent checkpoints with maximum security measures. Local residents said they are not alarmed by the martial law announcement, as they are familiar with it and understand the security forces’ operations, leading to a return to normal market activity in Tanyongmas Municipality.
Reporters stated that on 22 July 2026 at about 18:50, militants attacked rangers from the 4509th Ranger Task Force in Village 7, Tanyongmas Subdistrict, Ra-ngae District, Narathiwat Province, using ambush shooting and explosives. This attack resulted in the deaths of five brave rangers at the scene and injuries to six innocent civilians.
Today (26 July), security officials have cleared the area and reopened the route at the incident site for public use. The road had been closed since 22 July to allow Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and forensic teams to conduct detailed inspections and collect evidence to prevent further attacks and ensure the highest safety for residents.
Although the route is open, security remains tight. Rangers from the 45th Ranger Task Force continue to operate checkpoints on main and secondary roads, thoroughly searching vehicles and screening suspicious individuals to reassure locals and prevent militants from exploiting the situation to carry out further attacks.
At the Tanyongmas Municipality market in Ra-ngae District today, locals have started to resume regular shopping activities. The atmosphere is gradually returning to normal after news of additional martial law enforcement measures to control the situation.
Local residents unanimously expressed that they do not feel anxious or alarmed by the martial law declaration. Since Narathiwat Province has long operated under such laws for maintaining order, the community is accustomed to and understands the security forces’ necessity. Life continues normally under close security supervision by officials.
