Service Points at Sanam Luang Relocated as Construction Fence for Royal Crematorium Expanded Starting 1 Aug

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration announced adjustments to the Sanam Luang layout as the Fine Arts Department prepares to expand the temporary fence line starting 1 August 2026 to support construction of the royal crematorium for Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother. Food distribution and medical service points will be relocated to the tunnel in front of Phra Lan.

Mr. Taiwut Khankaew, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the BMA, said that during the third meeting of the Sanam Luang Command Center in 2026, he reported progress on site improvements and the layout for constructing the royal crematorium and related structures for the royal cremation ceremony of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother. The Fine Arts Department will expand the temporary fence on the west side to accommodate construction starting 1 August 2026, necessitating the relocation of the waiting tents and royal food distribution points from that area.

The Deputy Permanent Secretary added that the Department of Public Works has been tasked with creating a comprehensive site plan to clearly designate usage areas for each agency. Meanwhile, the Phra Nakhon District Office will coordinate with local Metropolitan Police stations to manage access routes for paying respects to the royal remains and oversee traffic safety to minimize disruption for the public. Service points such as royal food distribution and medical services will be relocated to the tunnel in front of Phra Lan, with the interior arranged neatly and suitably for service provision. Additionally, the Public Relations Office has moved a large LED screen, installing some parts near the royal kitchen, and is checking communication systems and support equipment to ensure readiness per the plan. They will also publicize the tent relocations and changes to access routes for paying respects to ensure the public is well informed.
