On 29 July 2023 at 11:00 a.m., the First Army Region received a report from the Burapha Task Force that Corporal Udomsak Nukman, 44 years old, technical survey officer of the 30th Infantry Battalion under the 1st Humanitarian Mine Action Unit, was injured while clearing explosive devices in the hazardous area of Nong Jan Village, Non Mak Mun Subdistrict, Khok Sung District, Sa Kaeo Province. The incident resulted in the soldier losing his left ankle and sustaining shrapnel wounds to his left arm. Immediate first aid was provided before he was transported to Aranyaprathet Hospital, where he remains conscious and is under urgent medical care.
This operation involves clearing landmines to establish a safe zone in Nong Jan Village, Khok Sung District, Sa Kaeo Province. The Burapha Task Force, in cooperation with the 1st Humanitarian Mine Action Unit of the Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters, is working in this dangerous area spanning 80,800 square meters. To date, 62,000 square meters, or 76.73%, have been cleared. The operation uncovered 489 unexploded devices, including 447 PMN mines, 39 MN79 mines, 2 POMZ-2 mines, and 1 unexploded ordnance (UXO). Clearance efforts continue to achieve 100% safety.
Lieutenant General Worayos Luangsuwan, Commander of the First Army Region, expressed his concern over the incident. He has instructed the Burapha Task Force to emphasize caution and prudence among personnel during operations. He also ordered comprehensive care for the injured soldier, including full provision of rights and welfare benefits. The mission to clear landmines in hazardous border areas will continue with full effort to secure safety for local communities.
