On 31 July 2026 at 09:00, reporters reported that at the Somdet District Office, Kalasin Province, Ms. Borlak Pengsuk, Halun's elder sister, accompanied by three relatives including his uncle, met with Mr. Wirat Ratchalee, the Somdet District Chief, to process identity confirmation documents for Mr. Bowornthat Pengsuk, known as “Halun Solo,” a famous YouTuber who died in Georgia.
The Somdet District Chief and staff provided full assistance, from submitting documents to advising on preparing paperwork to send to the Khon Kaen Consulate, to expedite bringing Halun's body back to his hometown for traditional funeral rites.
Mr. Wirat Ratchalee, Somdet District Chief, Kalasin Province, stated that the relatives came to handle the necessary legal documents for transferring the body, confirming the identity, residence, and origins of Mr. Bowornthat Pengsuk, age 27, also known as “Halun Solo,” a Thai backpacker YouTuber who died in Georgia. As the district registrar, he fully facilitated the paperwork, including official documents and online forms sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The relatives can then forward the documents to the Khon Kaen Consulate. The Somdet Registration Office prepared the official forms from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, signed and certified by the district chief in his capacity as registrar, confirming the deceased's identity. These important documents, both physical and online, were sent directly to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, enabling relatives to authorize the ministry to coordinate the repatriation of the body.
“Whether the body will return quickly to Kalasin depends on when the documents arrive in Georgia. Once all paperwork is complete, we will know when Halun’s body can be brought home. Regarding the cause of death, Georgian authorities have yet to conduct an autopsy, as they await these key documents. Halun's grandmother wishes to bring the body home to see her grandson one last time and to hold a funeral according to tradition,” said the Somdet District Chief.
Mr. Somphong Pengsuk, 62, Halun's uncle, said he came today to submit documents to repatriate the body for funeral rites according to official procedures but does not know when the body will arrive as it depends on government processes. Regarding whether a second autopsy will be conducted in Thailand, he said it cannot be confirmed yet and that they must wait for the Georgian authorities' findings on the cause of death.
If the results are clear and comprehensive, the family may not request another autopsy. However, if the findings remain unclear, they may seek to have the cause of death re-examined by relevant Thai authorities. This matter will be discussed further. If the body arrives in the hometown, the family will proceed with funeral ceremonies according to religious tradition, honoring their grandson's contributions to society.
“Although Halun had many fans and acquaintances who wished to contribute donations, the family has not opened any accounts or accepted donations at this time. They are still in the process of repatriating the body and must first discuss among themselves whether or not to open fundraising,” said Uncle Somphong.
At 10:00 at Halun Solo’s home in Village 10, Si Yak Subdistrict, Somdet District, Kalasin Province, Mr. Suwat Hemthanaphet, Governor of Kalasin, assigned Mrs. Worachada Hemthanaphet, President of Kalasin Red Cross and Chairwoman of the Interior Ministry Housewives Club, together with Mr. Wirat Ratchalee, Somdet District Chief, Mrs. Duangdao Ratchalee, President of Somdet Red Cross Branch, and teams of housewives, doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals from Somdet District Hospital, to deliver supplies and fresh milk and to visit and encourage the “Halun family.”
Upon arrival, Mrs. Worachada Hemthanaphet and the delegation embraced Mrs. Buasong Pengsuk, 82, Halun’s grandmother, to offer full support. Today, she appeared uplifted, having received encouragement from many sectors. At times, she smiled, joked, laughed, raised her hand to show determination, and thanked everyone and all agencies for their help and support. The grandmother also mentioned that she had not dreamed of her grandson in the past two days and felt he had gone peacefully, awaiting the body’s return for religious rites.
Mrs. Worachada Hemthanaphet said the delegation brought initial supplies and the governor’s concerns to encourage Halun’s family, especially Mrs. Buasong Pengsuk, 82, the grandmother, who appeared to have improved spirits during their visit. Officials assessed her health as normal but advised ample rest. Since the beginning, the governor has instructed all relevant agencies to visit the family, provide assistance, advice, and facilitate all necessary matters fully.
Ms. Amornrat Yurachai, a professional nurse and head of the psychiatric and substance abuse unit at Somdet Hospital, reported that ongoing visits have found the grandmother adapting but still experiencing some mild stress. She is coping with the situation and eating normally. Her underlying conditions—hypertension and diabetes—are stable. The mental health team visits daily to assess and ensure she takes prescribed medication regularly, emphasizing the importance of sufficient rest and proper nutrition.
Reports indicate that Halun Solo’s YouTube channel content is considered intellectual property. Mr. Suwat Hemthanaphet, Governor of Kalasin, has ordered officials to provide consultation to the family regarding intellectual property matters, should the heirs wish for the province to assist with facilitation.
Meanwhile, the family has been active on social media. Halun’s elder siblings posted on the Facebook page "Ko Pengsuk" expressing, “Today our family would like to sincerely thank everyone from the heart,” to express gratitude to Thai people both domestically and abroad, media, news pages, and all agencies for sharing information, sending encouragement, and tirelessly cooperating in the search.
Additionally, Halun’s cousin posted on Facebook "Klose Mos" requesting cooperation and understanding from the media and local people, stating that the grandmother is very tired and exhausted due to little rest, and the family’s mental state is not yet ready. He asked for time for the family to be together and manage affairs properly, and thanked everyone for respecting and understanding the family’s feelings during this difficult time.
