Officials rushed to assist a 10-year-old girl living with her drug-addicted father, who was neglecting her and not sending her to school. The home was found to be unhygienic. Efforts are being made to send the father for rehabilitation and coordinate with a school to continue the girl's education.
Reporters stated that on 31 Jul 2026, Mr. Natthanon Suwan, the district chief of Nam Kliang, along with local authorities, volunteers, and related agencies—including the Sisaket Provincial Child and Family Shelter, public health, police, hospital, and local government organizations—visited a house in Village 9, Tong Pit Subdistrict, Nam Kliang District to verify facts following a complaint about a 10-year-old girl not attending school and living with her drug-addicted father.
Upon investigation, it was confirmed that the 42-year-old father was indeed using drugs. The living conditions inside the house were unhygienic and potentially jeopardized the safety and quality of life of the child.
Interviews with neighbors revealed that the 10-year-old girl's father frequently used drugs, paid little attention to his daughter, and at times exhibited aggressive behavior, brandishing a knife and threatening neighbors. The girl did not attend school and stayed at home, living in fear of her father’s unpredictable outbursts.
Initially, officials arranged for the father to enter a drug rehabilitation program and coordinated with a school to enroll the girl in a boarding school, providing her with care and a suitable environment for living and studying. Before sending her father for treatment, the 10-year-old girl embraced him and cried one last time before they were separated—the father going for rehabilitation and the girl going to school to continue her life.
