On 3 Aug 2026 GMT+7, the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation announced an update on the health care of the wild elephant calf in Saiyok National Park after veterinary teams and staff closely monitored and collected blood samples for laboratory diagnosis.
Laboratory analysis of the wild elephant calf’s blood samples found no Elephant Endotheliotropic Herpesvirus (EEHV) type 1, a virus that severely affects the cardiovascular system, nor any EEHV type 4, which impacts the digestive system. Although these tests showed no presence of either virus type, veterinary teams stated that continuous periodic monitoring and virus testing remain essential for maximum safety.
Veterinarians and staff continue their dedicated efforts to closely monitor the calf’s symptoms and strictly follow scientific health care protocols. The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation will provide the public with regular updates on the calf’s condition and care.
