"Meteorological Department" Issues first warning "Heavy to very heavy rain" From 6-9 August 2026, check which provinces will be affected
4 August 2026Meteorological DepartmentThe Meteorological Department has issued its first bulletin warning of strong winds in the upper Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand, and heavy to very heavy rain over Thailand, effective from 6 to 9 August 2026. It states that the northern, northeastern, and eastern regions will experience increased rainfall, with some areas receiving heavy to very heavy rain.
Meanwhile, the central region including Bangkok and its vicinity, as well as the southern region, will have heavy rain in some areas. This is due to a monsoon trough passing over the upper northern and upper northeastern regions combined with a strong southwest monsoon covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand. The public is advised to be cautious of dangers from heavy to very heavy rain and accumulated rainfall, which may cause flash floods and sudden water surges, especially in foothill areas near waterways and lowlands.
Regarding sea conditions, the upper Andaman Sea has strong winds with waves 2-4 meters high, and in thunderstorm areas, waves exceed 3 meters. The upper Gulf of Thailand has waves 2-3 meters high, with waves over 3 meters during thunderstorms. Mariners in these waters should navigate with caution and avoid sailing in areas of thunderstorms. Small boats in the upper Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand are advised to refrain from leaving shore from 6 to 9 August 2026.
