Meteorological Department Issues Second Announcement: Check Provinces at Risk of Heavy to Very Heavy Rainfall from 6-9 August

The Meteorological Department issued its second announcement listing provinces at risk of "heavy to very heavy rainfall," with strong waves and winds in the upper Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand from 6 to 9 August 2026.

On 4 August 2026, the websiteof the Meteorological Departmentpublished Announcement No. 2 regarding strong waves and winds in the upper Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand, along with heavy to very heavy rainfall over Thailand, effective from 6 to 9 August 2026.

It stated that the northern, northeastern, and eastern regions will see increased rain, with some areas experiencing heavy to very heavy rainfall. Meanwhile, the central region including Bangkok and its vicinity, as well as the southern region, will have heavy rain in some areas. This is due to a monsoon trough passing through the upper northern and northeastern regions combined with a strong southwest monsoon blowing over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand. The public is advised to be cautious of dangers from heavy to very heavy rainfall and accumulated rain, which may cause flash floods and forest runoff, especially in foothill areas near waterways and low-lying regions.

Regarding waves, the upper Andaman Sea will experience strong winds with wave heights of 2 to 4 meters, and in areas of thunderstorms, waves may exceed 3 meters. The upper Gulf of Thailand will have waves 2 to 3 meters high, with waves over 3 meters in thunderstorm zones. Seafarers in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand are urged to navigate with caution and avoid sailing in areas with thunderstorms. Small boats in the upper Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand should refrain from leaving shore between 6 and 9 August 2026 for safety.
