The Governor of Chiang Mai has ordered all agencies to prepare for "heavy rain" during 6–8 August 2026, stressing close monitoring of the situation and reminding all units to be ready to assist the public 24 hours a day.
On 5 August 2026, Mr. Ratthaphon Naradisorn, Governor of Chiang Mai Province, stated that the province has been monitoring weather data with the Northern Meteorological Center. It is expected that from 6 to 8 August, the northern region will experience heavy to very heavy rain in some areas due to a monsoon trough crossing the upper northern and upper northeastern regions and a strong southwest monsoon.
Chiang Mai is among the areas expected to be affected by heavy rain, with risks of flash floods, sudden flooding, river overflow, waterlogging, and landslides—particularly in foothills, near waterways, and low-lying areas. The governor has urgently instructed all district chiefs, local administrative organizations, and relevant agencies to closely monitor rainfall and water levels, especially where rain accumulates continuously, with real-time reporting 24/7 to assess the situation and promptly warn the public.
He also emphasized that all units must prepare personnel, monitoring teams, public disaster machinery, vehicles, rescue tools, and equipment to operate around the clock, enabling immediate assistance to the public when incidents occur. Special attention is given to high-risk areas to prepare for evacuating vulnerable groups such as the elderly, patients, children, and disabled persons to safe locations if the disaster risk escalates.
For natural tourist sites like waterfalls, caves, and areas near rivers or foothills, if assessments indicate danger, warnings should be issued to tourists and residents, and temporary closures may be implemented immediately. Officials must strictly monitor these areas until the situation stabilizes.
Regarding disaster relief, every district must prepare temporary shelters with adequate capacity for affected people. This includes coordinating with local administrative organizations, village headmen, community leaders, and related agencies to provide food, drinking water, medicines, and essential supplies to support evacuations in emergencies. Preventive measures and advance public warnings are top priorities during this period. Chiang Mai has integrated efforts across all sectors to ensure rapid assistance and minimize disaster impacts.
Meanwhile, the Chiang Mai Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office has assigned staff to monitor and track the situation 24 hours a day, integrating operations with relevant departments, volunteer foundations, Civil Defense Volunteers, community leaders, and partner networks within Chiang Mai, as well as the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Center Region 10 in Lampang. This collaboration aims to monitor, warn, and support assistance to the public for rapid access and reduced disaster impacts.
