On 7 Aug 2026 GMT+7, reporters reported that a car crashed into the Ban Nong Song Ton childcare center, Moo 4, Kaeng Sian Subdistrict, Mueang Kanchanaburi District, Kanchanaburi Province. Twenty young children who were about to take a nap were injured, and the childcare building was damaged. Initially, the driver claimed he had fainted, as previously reported.
In the latest development, reporters visited Phaholpolpayuhasena Hospital and met the mother of one girl who was advised by doctors to rest and be observed. The other 19 children had already been discharged before the reporters arrived.
Meanwhile, Warittha Sanguansermsri, Governor of Kanchanaburi Province, along with Tharat Luengsa-ard, Deputy Governor, and Sombun Phansomphon, District Chief of Mueang Kanchanaburi, visited the hospital to encourage the parents. They urged medical staff to provide full care to the injured children and coordinated with relevant agencies to expedite aid and support for the affected families.
Investigations found the vehicle involved was a black Honda City registered in Kanchanaburi, driven by 54-year-old Chatchawan Pantham, with 20-year-old Phanupong as a passenger. Chatchawan was admitted to Phahol Hospital, while Phanupong, his nephew, was uninjured. Authorities took both for questioning at Mueang Kanchanaburi Police Station. The driver, who was still able to speak, said he suddenly fainted while driving along the road, causing the accident.
Reports stated that after the crash, officials found a woman at the scene carrying a shoulder bag. Upon inquiry, she said she was the driver's girlfriend. Inside her bag, authorities found one firearm. She said the driver had called her after the incident and, upon her arrival, handed her the bag containing the weapon for safekeeping. She denied any involvement with the firearm. Authorities seized the gun as evidence and plan to question her further.
