Police mobilized over fifty officers to surround and detain a 34-year-old man who locked himself inside a house in Mukdahan Province, armed with two guns. Attempts to negotiate were unsuccessful.
At around 17:00 on 7 August 2026, officers from Mueang Mukdahan Police Station surrounded and attempted to detain a man exhibiting delusional and erratic behavior, initially confined within his own home.
Police tried to apprehend him at the lower level of the house but failed because the man ran upstairs and locked himself inside. It was confirmed he was armed with two firearms.
Reporters visiting Dong Yang village, Kut Khae subdistrict, Mueang district, Mukdahan Province, found the house to be two stories, half concrete and half wood. The man, Lae or Chate, 34, was locked inside an upper room. Officers tried to negotiate and enter the house, but he continuously shouted loudly, preventing progress.
Local residents reported that two days before, the man had been mumbling to himself for unknown reasons. Concerned for the family's safety, his mother sent him to sleep elsewhere. Today, feeling resentful, he complained about being feared and insisted he had done nothing wrong nor disturbed anyone, leading to his stressed state and the current incident.
After several hours, Lae has still not surrendered and remains locked in the room. Currently, police are only maintaining a perimeter to prevent him from leaving the house.
