Thailand-Myanmar Business Forum 2026 "THAILAND-MYANMAR Business Forum 2026" Successfully held, Thai and Myanmar businesspeople expressed great enthusiasm, engaging actively in trade negotiations.
On 9 August 2026, Mr. Pitsanu Suwanachat, President of the Thailand-Myanmar Friendship Association, announced the success of the "THAILAND-MYANMAR Business Forum 2026" under the theme "A New Chapter in Thailand–Myanmar Business Partnership" held at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center. The event coincided with the visit of Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, to Thailand. This business forum marks a new chapter in Thai-Myanmar business partnerships and represents a significant step in cooperation between the business sectors of both countries. It was the first time Thailand and Myanmar jointly organized a business forum at this level, with over 700 representatives from government, private sectors, and economic institutions from both countries attending, alongside more than 200 Thai and international journalists.
The Thailand-Myanmar Friendship Association invited the Thai Prime Minister and the President of Myanmar to deliver keynote speeches at the event, reassuring Thai and Myanmar businesspeople. Both leaders emphasized strengthening relations based on longstanding friendship and mutual benefits across all dimensions, especially developing border transport routes, which serve as vital ASEAN and Mekong subregion gateways. They pledged to revise regulations to facilitate investors from both countries and reaffirmed their strong commitment to revitalizing trade and investment atmospheres between the two nations within this year.
Currently, Myanmar ranks as Thailand’s 22nd largest foreign trading partner and 7th within ASEAN. Thailand is a crucial trade and investment partner for Myanmar, being the third-largest foreign investor in the country with cumulative investments exceeding 4.6 billion U.S. dollars, approximately 152.1 billion baht. These investments span more than 100 projects across sectors such as energy, agriculture, manufacturing, infrastructure, logistics, and tourism.
Meanwhile, trade value between the two countries continues to grow steadily, particularly in natural gas and agricultural exports from Myanmar to Thailand, as well as imports of industrial goods, machinery, and high-quality consumer products from Thailand. This growth potential remains substantial and serves as a key driver for regional stability and prosperity.
The business forum’s discussion panels attracted enthusiastic participation from Thai and Myanmar entrepreneurs, especially sessions on "Business Opportunities in Myanmar" and "Business Clinics for Potential Investors Interested in Myanmar." These sessions were fully attended, with participants eager to learn about current business conditions in Myanmar, given the presence of government and business representatives providing valuable information.
Similarly, three other sessions—"Creating a Future-Ready Regulatory Environment for Sustainable and Successful Business in Myanmar," "New Perspectives on Thailand-Myanmar Connectivity: From Current Realities to Future Opportunities," and "Unlocking New Borders for Thai-Myanmar Business Partnerships: New Business, New Opportunities, and New Growth"—also drew significant interest. Both Thai and Myanmar representatives shared insights during these discussions.
Additionally, during the forum, members of the Thailand-Myanmar Friendship Association’s executive committee met with Thai businesspeople investing in Myanmar and Myanmar entrepreneurs interested in investment in both countries. Many welcomed the forum since such events have been rare, enabling Thai and Myanmar business communities to connect, attend discussions, and receive updates on the current situation to make informed investment decisions. Numerous participants scheduled business negotiations at the event. Organizers noted the forum’s success benefits Thai and Myanmar business sectors through knowledge exchange and expressed hope for continuing such events in the future.
Mr. Pitsanu expressed gratitude to the organizations and agencies involved in organizing the THAILAND-MYANMAR Business Forum 2026, including the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI), the Joint Foreign Chambers of Commerce in Thailand (JFCCT), the Thai Supply Chain Network, CASEAN Center, the Thai Business Association Myanmar (TBAM), as well as partner agencies and supporters from both countries. He especially thanked Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, President of Myanmar, for acknowledging the Thailand-Myanmar Friendship Association and collaborators for successfully hosting the event.
