The National Water Resources Office has announced monitoring of rising water levels in the Mekong River. From 8 to 12 August 2026, water levels are expected to rise by 1.0 to 1.5 meters. Residents in eight provinces along the Mekong are warned to be cautious when traveling and engaging in water activities.

the National Water Resources Office has been monitoring the Mekong River situation and found heavy rainfall in Myanmar, Laos, northern and northeastern Thailand. It forecasts the Mekong's water level to increase by 1.0 to 1.5 meters between 8 and 12 August 2026. From Chiang Saen District, Chiang Rai Province to Khong Chiam District, Ubon Ratchathani Province,
the office requests relevant agencies and provinces along the Mekong to inform and warn residents while closely monitoring rising water levels. They should be cautious about waterway travel and activities in the eight provinces along the river. Especially in the low-lying riverbank areas of Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, and Nakhon Phanom provinces.
