At 10:10 a.m. on 10 Aug 2026, police from Mueang Chai Nat Police Station received a report of a monk carrying a firearm outside the pharmacy at a hospital in Mueang Chai Nat district, and promptly went to investigate.
Upon arrival, they found Monk Preeda from a temple in Chai Nat sitting and waiting for medicine. The handle of a gun gleamed from inside his shoulder bag, causing alarm among many visitors. Officers inspected it and, after pulling the handle from the bag, everyone was relieved to see it was a fake gun made of plastic attached to a phone case. Police instructed Monk Preeda to break off the gun-shaped part of the phone case and confiscated it. They warned that such actions cause public alarm and are strongly discouraged, even if unintentional.
Monk Preeda said he came to see the doctor and collect medicine as scheduled. Regarding the gun, he said he bought the phone case from an app for fun because it felt comfortable to hold, with no malicious intent. He said he would not do it again, fearing it would scare people as it did today.
